
Question: What do I do if I’ve lost my password?
Answer: If you are a Shred Customer, you’ll need to contact your shredder, who will verify your identity and provide you with a new temporary password. You’ll then need to log in using the new temporary password, at which point you’ll be prompted to set a new permanent password. If you are a Shredder, you’ll need to get in touch with Lock Nations to have your password reset.
Question: How does the Lock Nations service work?
Answer: Instead of using padlocks on your security containers, you use combination locks that are provided by and have been registered with Lock Nations. And, instead of giving your client a key, you give the client a temporary password. If your customer needs to get inside a bin, they can retrieve the combination to a particular lock on our secure website, saving you a trip to the account, saving you money, and, greatly enhancing your security program.
Question: Do my drivers have to know every combination to every lock?
Answer: No. Your drivers will not know the combinations to the locks. They will open the combination locks with the master key assigned to your account.
Question: Who manages the lock inventory?
Answer: The shredding contractor manages locks and lock assignments online at the Lock Nations website.
Question: Does Lock Nations know who my customers are?
Answer: No. We do not collect that information. You give your customers a unique ID, but only you know to whom the ID is assigned.
Question: How much does the service cost?
Answer: Our combination lock costs about a much as a good padlock. The monthly service charge for Lock Nations depends on your Shred Nations membership level. For Platinum members, Lock Nations service is free. On the other end of the spectrum, Bronze members pay $30 per month for Lock Nations, far less than the cost of just one trip to an account to replace a key or open a bin to retrieve a document. Silver and Gold members pay $15 and $10 per month, respectively, for unlimited Lock Nations service.
Question: How many locks can I have in the system? And, how often may my customers access the system?
Answer: There are no limits.
Question: If I switched to using combination locks, what would I do with all my padlocks?
Answer: Sell them “used” on Shred Mall of course! www.shredmall.com
Question: How do I know if an account has requested access to a shred bin?
Answer: Every time a customer requests access to a shred bin, you are notified. We recommend that you email your contact in the account and inform him that access was requested for a particular lock. That way he can determine if access was authorized.
Question: As a contractor, how do I pay for the service?
Answer: If you are a Platinum member of Shred Nations, your Lock Nations subscription is free. Otherwise, we will collect your subscription fees via PayPal on the first of each month.
Question: Do I need to be a member of Shred Nations to use Lock Nations?
Answer: Yes, shredding contractors must be members of Shred Nations. But remember, Bronze membership in Shred Nations is free.
Question: Is Lock Nations available outside the US?
Answer: Lock Nations is available anywhere PayPal is accepted.
Question: May I charge my customers a fee if I offer Lock Nations as an add-on benefit?
Answer: Sure. However, you may not resale the service.
Question: Is your website secure?
Answer: Yes. All transmitted data is encrypted.
Question: Explain your User ID and password system for shredding contractors.
Answer: As a shredding contractor, you are initially assigned a temporary User ID and Password. Thereafter, the contractor comes to our website and changes both to permanent. After that, you can begin administering your locks.
Question: How does one of my shredding customers retrieve a lock combination if he needs to get inside his shred bin?
Answer: When you deliver his locked bin for the first time, you give him a temporary User ID and Password. You instruct him to come to our secure website and convert the temporaries to permanent identifiers. His new password and User ID will be activated and he can search for his combination.
Question: Who should the customer contact if he needs to get into his bin?
Answer: He doesn’t need to contact anyone. All he should do is come the locknations.com website and recover his combination.
Question: How would a shredding customer retrieve his combination to get into a bin?
Answer: Once he’s converted his temporary User ID and Password to permanent status, he logs in at locknations.com and is instructed to enter some numbers located on each lock. If the vendor number and serial numbers match the locks assigned to you, he’s given his combination.
Question: Does it matter if locks get moved around, switched out?
Answer: No. The locks assigned to you can be used on any container in your system. As a matter of security, we recommend that you swap locks every time you service a container.
Question: I am a national company. Will each of my offices have a unique key?
Answer: No. One key will open all locks assigned to your account, regardless of location.
Question: Can I use Lock Nations locks on my consoles and bins with built-in locks?
Answer: Not yet, but we are working on a conversion package for those types of containers, as well as with the bin manufacturers.
